Letters From Grandma Luncheon Theme

March 08, 2019 at 3:11 AM

          Who was your grandmother?

The DuBois Area Historical Society will answer that question during its 12thAnnual Luncheon, also celebrating Women’s History Month, Saturday, March 16, beginning at noon at Christ Lutheran Church, Sunflower Drive, DuBois.

The theme for the luncheon is “Letters from Grandma.” Following up on the Society’s 2018 genealogy presentations, the program will feature readings from personal recollections and the experiences of women residents of the DuBois area.

In researching a grandmother many genealogists discover that the woman’s first name would not be in her obituary and much of the other information included would be about her husband.

There was much more to tell. This program seeks to fill in some of the blank areas in the information. These women were hearty pioneers arriving in DuBois from various places with a wide variety of personal, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, which they passed along to their daughters and grandchildren.

The presentations will focus on a pioneer woman, a backwoods nurse, and immigrant women of Swedish, Polish, and Italian descent.

Reservations and payment for the luncheon are due by March 12. The cost is $10 and includes wedding soup, Subway sandwiches, macaroni salad and dessert. Reservations should be sent to DuBois Area Historical Society, P. O. Box 401, DuBois, Pa. 15801. Checks should be made payable to the DuBois Area Historical Society. For additional information telephone 814-371-9006 or email duboisareahistory@yahoo.com. A reservation is available at the Society’s webpage at www.duboishs.com.
