Shick To Speak At Genealogy Program

November 29, 2017 at 3:22 AM

The response to the DuBois Area Historical Society’s genealogy for beginners program was sufficient for the scheduling of a second program, Thursday, December 7, from 2-3:30 p.m.

Society director of genealogist Barb Emmer has scheduled Sue Shick from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to speak at this session. The program is free and open to all. Please call 814-375-9660 to make reservations so sufficient materials will be available for the program. Participants did not have to participate in previous genealogical programs to attend this session.

Nineteen people recently participated in the first genealogy for beginners program. The class focused on how to begin the process of collecting facts, files, and data to discover one’s roots. The presentation explored means of obtaining this information both free and pay. Emmer explained the sources available locally at the historical society and how they can contribute to the family history of those who live, or once lived in the DuBois area. The DuBois Area Historical Society library offers many kinds of sources, collected and maintained for easy access. These include city directories, obituaries, marriage announcements, yearbooks, church records, etc.
