The 2009 DuBois Area Historical Society Calendar featuring the “Founders of Our Communities” is currently on sale. The initial printing of the Society’s 2008 calendar was a sale out.

The calendar sells for $5. Calendars may be ordered by calling (814) 371-9006. Those wishing to have the calendar mailed to them should include $1.50 for postage and handling and mail the request to DuBois Area Historical Society, P.O. Box 401, DuBois, Pa. 15801. Checks should be made payable to the DuBois Area Historical Society.

“We believe we have a product that will be useful as a calendar and also be educational because of its historical content and photographs,” said Tom Schott, Society 2nd vice president and chair of the fund raising committee. “The calendar was completed with the assistance of a dozen sponsors. Each month features the story of a community’s founding along with photos. The communities are featured on the calendar in chronological order of founding. In addition, many of the date blocks on the calendar contain information about local historical events. We believe it makes an ideal Christmas gift for former residents who no longer live in the area.”

The featured communities include:  Sandy Township, Luthersburg, Reynoldsville, Rockton, Troutville, Falls Creek, Penfield, Sykesville, Sabula, Rumbarger, City of DuBois, and Treasure Lake.

In addition to the DuBois Area Historical Society, calendars may be purchased at Central Catholic High School, Ft. Worth Restaurant, Kohlhepp’s True Value Hardware, Peaceable Kingdom, Rosie’s Bookstore, Syktich Appliance, Trousseaux, and Way Office Plus, all in DuBois; and Willar’s Market in Falls Creek.

The sponsors for the project included:  DuBois Business College, Hayes Lubrication, Kiwanis Club of DuBois, Kohlhepp’s True Value Hardware, Mohney-Yarger Funeral Chapel, Peaceable Kingdom, Syktich Appliance, Symmco Inc., Treasure Lake Ski Lodge, Way Office Plus,Willar’s Grocery, and Xtreme Wear.

“Great support was received from throughout the DuBois Area Historical Society’s service area,” said Schott. “We encourage people to buy the calendar and support these many fine businesses, who helped made this publication possible.”
