Two New Local History Books Available

barn_cover.jpg         The DuBois Area Historical Society now has on sale, two new published books of local history:  The Pennsylvania Barn Scrapbook Volume I – The ABC’s of the Timber Framed Barnby Clair Kriner; and Elk County Murders & Mysterious Deaths Volume Iby James T. Baumgratz.

          In his Pennsylvania Barn Scrapbook, Clare Kriner examines the difference between Amish, bank, log, pole, round, shed, stone and timber framed barns; as well as how they were built and the tools used to build them. Every barn has a story and some can be best told in pictures accounting for the over 200 pictures, 150 in color, of barns and sheds from 90 local farms. The book is $21.20 including tax.

           Jim Baumgratz, a lifelong resident of Elk County, is a true murder buff and spent many years elk_murder_cover.jpggathering information for this book. It recalls 25 true murders and mysterious deaths that were committed between 1873 and 1936 in all localities of Elk County including Johnsonburg, Kersey, Dent’s Run, Ridgway, Rathbun, and James City. Elk County Murdersis $26.45 including tax.
