            Scott Shaffer will conclude the DuBois Area Historical Society’s programs for its 30^th anniversary year by presenting “Archaeological Findings in the DuBois Area,” Tuesday, November 13, at 7 p.m. at the E. D. Reitz Museum, 28 W. Long Ave., DuBois. The program is free and open to all.

            “There are tons of archaeological stories from the DuBois area,” said Shaffer, who plans a PowerPoint presentation. “I’ve been involved with many fun projects and I am pleased to be asked to share them at this presentation.”

             Shaffer is a Historic Preservation Specialist for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), serving all districts within the Commonwealth while targeting the North-Central Region. The North-Central Region includes McKean, Elk, Cameron, Potter, Clinton, Clearfield, Centre, Mifflin, Juniata, Tioga, Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, Montour, Union, Snyder, and Northumberland Counties, and PennDOT Engineering Districts 2-0 and 3-0.

             He graduated from Kent State University in 1989 with a bachelor of arts degree in anthropology and the University of Memphis in 1992 a master of arts degree in applied anthropology/public archaeology. His archaeological experience includes pre-contact and historic period investigations in 13 states including U.S. territories. His current areas of interest include Native American consultation, contact and historic period archaeology, acculturation processes, and farmstead archaeology.

            In addition to his work with PennDOT, Shaffer teaches the course “Introduction to North American Archaeology” at Penn State DuBois.
