Jack Green of DuBois will present “My Life With the Peace Corps” as the guest speaker for the 34th Annual DuBois Area Historical Society Dinner.

The dinner is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 875 Sunflower Drive, DuBois. The cost for the evening is $20. The buffet menu includes:  stuffed chicken breast, roast beef, mashed potatoes/gravy, cabbage and noodles, green beans almondine, salad, rolls, dessert, and beverages.

Reservations for the dinner should be made by September 9. Reservations may be sent to DuBois Area Historical Society, P. O. Box 401, DuBois, Pa. 15801; by calling 814-371-9006; or by e-mail at duboisareahistory@yahoo.com.

Green is a DuBois native and graduated from St. Catherine’s High School, the first accredited Catholic High School in Pennsylvania, and Notre Dame University. Green and his wife, Leah, live in DuBois.

“I was part of the forensics team in high school,” said Green. “I was partners with Joe Hassan and the topic was foreign aid. We studied the contrast between U.S. aid, which involved giving money and the U.S.S.R. policy of going in and working with the people of the country. We felt if the U.S. method was changed it would be more effective.”

Inspired by President John F. Kennedy’s establishment of the Peace Corps in 1960, Green joined and spent from June 1962 until June 1964 in the Philippines. He taught English as a second language in elementary schools.

“I took a chance and walked the walk,” Green said. “The ultimate purpose was not only to help a foreign country, but what you do when you returned home.”

The DuBois Area Historical Society will hold its annual elections at the dinner.
