Clark To Reveal Quilt Secrets

October 25, 2010 at 11:12 AM

Barbara Clark, family and consumer science teacher at Brockway High School and a long time quilter, will be the guest speaker for the 4th Annual DuBois Area Historical Society Luncheon, scheduled Nov.  13 at noon at the DuBois Diner.

Clark’s topic is “Hidden Messages of Quilts.” Clark is a long time quilter. She teaches craft units to her students and has had a group of quilting students meet after school to work on projects.

Her presentation will explore the hidden messages quilters have placed in their work. Quilts have existed for thousands of years and designers have found ways to work messages into their work related to family members and friends and the Underground Railroad prior to the Civil War is reputed to have passed information on to slaves via quilts.

Reservations for the luncheon are due by election day, Nov. 2.  The cost of the luncheon is $13.50. The hot sandwich buffet includes:  pot roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, tossed salad, beverages, and dessert.

Reservations can be made by sending a check payable to the DuBois Area Historical Society to DuBois Area Historical Society, P.O. Box 401, DuBois, Pa. 15801, telephone (814) 371-9006.

The luncheon will be in the meeting room of the DuBois Diner. There is elevator access to the room.

This will be the concluding program for 2010 for the DuBois Area Historical Society. The 2011 activities will begin with the annual banquet, Feb. 3, 2011. The speaker will be Pam Kirk, “Sabula’s Secrets and Treasures.” Details will be announced at a later date.
