2007-08 Schedule Announced

            The DuBois Area Historical Society is announcing its 2007-08 schedule of events. They include:

            October 20 – 25th Anniversary Open House, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., E. D. Reitz Museum, 28-34 W. Long Ave., DuBois. See story elsewhere in this issue.

            October 26 – Help the DuBois Area Historical Society with a fund-raiser at Hoss’ Steak & Sea. Pick up a free voucher  card at the Society or a Society Executive Committee member and eat at Hoss’ (including lunch) on Oct. 26. Twenty percent of your bill will go to the DuBois Area Historical Society when your voucher card is presented.

            November 3 – DuBois Area Historical Society luncheon, noon at the Luthersburg Community Center. The guest speaker will be Dorothy Hook, “Storefronts and Gas Stations:  The Art of Local Building Construction.” Cost $7.50 for adults, $4 for children under 12. Menu – Soup, sandwich, pasta salad, cake. Deadline for reservations Oct. 22. Call 814-371-9006 or 814-371-4627.

            December 14 – Help the DuBois Area Historical Society with a fund-raiser at Hoss’ Steak & Sea. Get a free voucher card from the Society and eat at Hoss’ (including lunch) on Dec. 14. Twenty percent of your bill will go to the DuBois Area Historical Society when your voucher card is presented.

            February 7, 2008 – 26th Annual DuBois Area Historical Society dinner, 6 p.m., DuBois Senior Center. Returning, as guest speaker will be former Society President Mike Mowrey, who will present his popular “Tombstone Art” talk. Watch for additional announcement of menu and cost for dinner.

            April 17, 2008 – Brian Hineman, “Buffalo Ranching In Western Pennsylvania,” 7:30 p.m., E.D. Reitz Museum, 28-34 W. Long Ave., DuBois.

            May 29, 2008 – Galen Kilmer, “DuBois Area High School Local History Projects,” 7:30 p.m., E. D. Reitz Museum, 28-34 W. Long Ave., DuBois.

            September 27, 2008 – Doug Brennan, “History of the DuBois Walkway” (a walking tour, wear comfortable shoes), 11 a.m., meeting place to be announced.

            October 18, 2008 – Lantern walk. Now being planed. It will feature a walking tour of the downtown area with stops to hear historical stories of DuBois history. Time and further details to be announced.

            November 8, 2008 – DuBois Area Historical Society luncheon. Guest speaker Scheldean Jose performing as the mother of Mary Wade, the only civilian casualty during the battle of Gettysburg. Luthersburg Community Center, noon. Details will be released closer to the date.
